Sardines and German Tourists

Monday, 5 March 2012 – Agadir, Morocco

Agadir

"Agadir is a holiday resort", the Fodor's tour book says. This is true if you'd like to go to a beach resort where the predominant Muslim Moroccans are "less socially restrained than in Casablanca". It is a warm, sunny, 1960s architecturally dominant town due to the earthquake on leap day in 1960 that completely destroyed the city. We took the first ship's shuttle bus at 9 am this morning and walked about an hour around the big square and public market (oh boy, another public market), took some pictures of the very modern mosque (with apparently modern prayer technology) but also saw the traditional fishing harbor. The guide said that sardines are the, uh, big fish here. Actually, we had a pretty nice short visit as we sail for Casablanca at 2 pm, about 250 miles up the Atlantic coast.
